Default when selling a car

when selling a car do people not realise that the mot history is on line?
From time to time I look as I'm sure a lot do on ebay for a car.
Saw one that looked to fit the criteria and was well maintained... according to the advert.
looking at the mot history it failed the last 2 mots and even once they had passed the mot, the advisories were still there. serious advisories eg tyre almost at legal limit. Not sure about well maintained but maintained enough to get through mot.

once I see this sort of thing I tend to look elsewhere as the advert does not mention the advisories

Always an interesting read... I reckon many use the MOT to see if they need new tyres! The number of advisories mentioning tyres is ridiculous. Don't owners at least look at them before trundling off for an MOT?

Being devil's advocate, if people are getting advisories on tyres then there tyres are legal. Why should they buy new tyres before they are absolutely, desperately needed?

Car nuts, like us, know the sense in buying tyres sooner because of the exponential loss in grip as tyre tread becomes thinner. A lot of people don't.

Having the mot history online is great, BTW, really helps flesh out the history of a vehicle a bit more.

I love a MOT history full of Brake pipe fails, rear arm fails. Means they have been replaced. Many dodgy MOT's about that don't reflect the car. It's proven that these items will need doing. I've seen cars with no advisories but the rear camber looks like a BMW X5.

There's a K-reg Mk5 Escort RS2000 rotting away on a drive near me. Been there years and slowly turning to dust.

I checked the MOT history to see when it might have last been on the road and it came back that it's never had an MOT.

Either it was driven for some years after it was three years old without an MOT or it was parked up sometime around 1994?

It's K428 CAR if you want to see for yourself.

The mot history is only available from somewhere around 2006, so mif it's not been on the road since then there would be no history

At least it doesn't look like a triumph herald!
