Default Head Rebuild underway.

I worked the weekend and couldn't do much on the 75, I've also had a setback on the right eye but...today I got on the head rebuild, removal of bent valves and cleaning etc.. It's nice and flat so no need for skimming, I just have to lap the rest of the valves in after the symbolic first two. I spent time getting the carbon out of the ports and it was worth it, the new stuff should make a smoother engine. I also started choosing Hydraulic followers I will re-use, some feel blocked, others easy to pump out and clean. I reckon I'm three days away from it running again, it all depends on the Doctors orders tomorrow.

The exhaust seats look a bit rough Mike, plus those are early valves without the carbon break on the stems by the looks of things.

One thing I will say, the seats need to be quite narrow on these, but depending on whether you have a suitable valve seat cutter or not, a wizard wheeze is to araldite an M8 nut onto the head of an old valve, and use a SPQR valve grinder with a socket and a drill and coarse paste to speed things up a little

Looks like I may be doing something similar with a poorly MGF in the coming days, another "oh they all do that" job

Take it steady with the eyes, there is no need to rush yourself with this job

Have fun

Brian

HUSBANDS. Cheer yourself up by watching your wedding video in reverse. Youll love the bit when you give her the wedding ring back, walk back up the isle, get into a car a F*** off!

I finished lapping the valves this afternoon, the seats have a lovely grey line around them, the seats looked bad but it was mostly stains from cleaning the head, they came up great. I start the rebuild tomorrow as I've got the OK from the eye Doctors. I will fit the new stuff tomorrow first, rings, cylinders etc When I've done the top end I'll fit the sump back on, I made a gasket for it to make sure of no leaks. I've spent so much time cleaning the engine bits, the oil should be clean for ages.
