Default 75 Connoisseur T Tourer estate £300 ovno

Needs someone to love it - will not 'run' according to my garage (had a serious overheat) otherwise in very good nick. About 80,000+ on the clock but the battery has been 'done in' by the garage so I can't read it. 03 reg, blue and the paint goes inside on the sills which I am told means it is a Longbridge one??
I would really like it to go to someone who can make use of it.
I am 72 and cannot take on a job like this... £300 ovno as I need to buy another car to get me around.
SY9 postcode.

Judith, you need to remove your phone number. It's one of the rules. Either deal via this thread, private messages or email.

sounds like head gasket failure,a common problem on the 1.8,but not unfixable.
A garage would charge around 350pounds parts and labour, but there are members within the club, who are likely to do the job for less, and you will be getting someone who knows what they are doing, and knows the cars back to front and inside out.Looking at your area,I would say your nearest MGRover expert is Terry Shaw at TS Autos in Stourbridge. He hasn't been on here for a long tome, but I'm sure someone will have his contact telephone number.

Just to add to this, there is also a MGR mobile mechanic, other club members have used him before and found him to be first class, there is also Andy Willi, mechanic from this club, who will travel to you for the cost of fuel on top of the job cost see here:smilie_re https://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/forum/member.php?u=740

Also adding, that you are not supposed to put "offers" and really have to state a price, if you don`t know what the value is you can write to certain members who would guide you, however one of the Mod`s will be pointing this out to you.
good luck.
Ken.

Judith, you really do need to put a price on this car. Near offers etc can be used but a price must be given. You can alter this later if you so wish.

I'm intrigued to know if the price of £350 includes:
Full head gasket set, head bolts, uprated ladder, head skim, timing belt kit, water pump, engine oil, oil filter, coolant, labour & VAT ?
(I have successfully done these without replacing the uprated ladder at the customers request, to help keep the price down but the rest still applies).

In this case, because the car has overheated, I would also recommend a thermostat.

Having said the above, it sounds like Judith just wants to sell the car rather than get involved in a repair (which is fair enough) bearing in mind that if it's got that hot, there could be underlying problems on the bottom end.

In reply to RPWC's rather unrealistic pricing, I would discount head bolts and uprated ladder, but include recutting all 16 valve seats and refacing of all valves in addition to the work.

And no, not even at North East prices would I even contemplate doing the job for £350.

A car which has been overheated to such an extent that it won't run is likely to have damaged the piston skirts, and wrecked the head in any case.

It would be a nice car no doubt, but I can't see it being a quick or easy repair sadly though

Best of luck with the sale, if you had been a little closer I may well have been interested in your car, but I'm sure you will find a more local buyer.
