Default front springs?

I recently had my REAR springs replaced and thought I would check the FRONTS today as I had a few minutes spare, anyway I took both front wheels off, but could not notice anything wrong with them and they "appear" to be ok,but when I was tightening the N/S (passenger) wheel nuts with my breaker bar I noticed the passenger wheel was moving 25-50mm backwards towards the REAR of the car, any ideas what the play could be/common faults etc etc? and no I was NOT exerting too much force on the bar!!!!!

Have look at the lower arm rear bushes. If broken or breaking up it can give that effect. Is that tyre wearing on the outside edge?

Thats one heck of a movement 1" - 2", something seriously wrong there I would think. A very badly worn lower arm rear bush. Can't think what else could give that amount of movement without the suspension collapsing. Keep us posted.

The same thing happened to me with the wheel moving backwards and forwards and knocking when throttling on and off. The lower arm rear bush had torn out of the centre. A swine to replace lying on your back in the rain I lubed the new bush with washing up liquid to fit it onto the arm before battle commenced.

had it checked this morning and it is indeed the rear lower arm bush, bad on the passengers side, not too bad on the drivers side, I suppose it`s common sense to have them both CHANGED?
CAN ANYONE RECCOMEND A GOOD BRAND PLEASE, THANKS FOR YOUR HELP.

As a rule any change on the running gear should be done on the other side as well. Good practice and safer.

As for brand

If you can wait a couple of days - remembering it's Saturday!! you could contact "Our Jules"

If it's urgent then go for the Unipart option!! they are usually on the shelf!! and currently available at a sensible price! - well from my local Partco's anyway

They are the same as the MG version (ie-more rubber than hole!!) so tend to be more durable than the Rover version!! (more hole than rubber) with no noticeable reduction in comfort!

I have fitted these to several rovers now and the only comments I have had back from the owners are "oh that's better" but then if the old ones are cream crackered then it would be !! no?

HTH?

Andy

P.S!! As said above good practice to fit in pairs!!
