It would appear that this mounting point issue has caused some concerns over on the Two-Sixties that many of the earlier cars may not have these extra mounts. I have said that I will thoroughly photograph the whole area and post it on the site so that all members can check their cars to see if they have them or not, I will do the same here also, earlier 75 V8's could well suffer with the same potential problem. I do not wish to be an alarmist, but the issue has been pointed out that the rear subframe without these mounts could be "ripped out with continuous use" The big problem, of course, is that to carry out the modification the rear cradle assembly, intermediate exhaust & silencers and fuel tank will have to be removed as strengthening threaded plates need to be welded into the chassis

Hmmn, he's gone quiet I hear you all say, 'spose he's bored with it now far from it, says I Painter arrived (at long last) 09:30 this morning, painted the engine bay out and said "leave it to dry" for a few hours, so, me being me, I counted to ten and started to reassemble things (it was dry, honest it was) By 21:30 this evening it looked like this. Just gotta wait for my engine bits 'n' pieces then I can sling that in as well!

1, 2, 3 Nice & Shiny but extremely bare
4 & 5 That looks a little more like it!

Could have been disasterous if you had damaged the paint, there is no doubt about your enthusiasm. Thanks for keeping us informed

Thanks for your appreciation Greeners, better make 005 a show car then

OK, Todays story. I'm not too happy this evening, I'm beginning to question my sanity and wondering if it is ever all worth it. It is at times like this, you realise that you really are tired! I stripped 577 of all its front crossmember & suspension and built it all up into 05, not too big a drama apart from this lump being pretty heavy. Why is he not happy I hear you ask, surely he'd be pleased that lump is in. Well, I was, pretty chuffed until, as I was looking at the front lower wishbones, I noticed to my dismay that there are no holes for the anti-roll bar link arms. This means that the wishbones in the subframe are ordinary ZT/75, which of course don't have an anti-roll bar. I must add, at this point, that 577 came with a complete replacement subframe already fitted. Off to flea-bay I went.... search revealed no matches. Went onto Rimmers web site, SHOCK HORROR... that price will write the project off. Time to lock the garage up, go indoors, have a nice cup of tea and calm down. I will contact SMC to see if he can help, failing that, I might see if I can get my local engineering shop to drill a pair of ordinary ZT wishbones and mill the nut & washer cut-outs into them, unless of course, some kind hearted soul out there just happens to have, or know someone who has, a pair of V8 wishbones laying around that I could tempt with the offer of some of the Queens finest paper
Anyway, pictures below
1 & 2 Nice large lump installed
3 The old wishbone with link arm mounting hole
4 The fitted wishbone without any holes

The answers to the wishbone issue can be found over on www.two-sixties,com and I'd give Brian at Dreadnought a call if you need a pair

Hi John, I understand that it is reasonably (very for you) easy to mod the standard wishbones to V8 spec and this is what Brian (Dreadnought) suggests. Edit see here:

Fantastic progress - very well done!!

Thanks for that Tony, there might be some already done, available over on the Two-Sixties, if not I'll get a new standard pair and modify them. I've just had a thought actually, I have a large pillar drill and some milling bits.... perhaps I might get me down to Euro's then!
