Default Possibly breaking ZT 2.0 CDTI - what to keep?

I’ve bought a ZT in trophy blue (52 plate) - 135 Diesel, primarily for some interior parts to swop over on mine plus the alloys/tyres are better than my early V6 160+. Seems cheaper way to do it than buy the stuff separate.

Don’t think it’s worth putting a ticket on it and reselling on - it’s out of MOT now.

It starts and runs but doesn’t rev ? Any ideas

Just wondered IF I did break it and look to scrap what’s left, what if any are the parts to retain? The shell seems very good although paintwork lacquer poor on bonnet / roof.

If I try for a ticket and there’s lots to do then there’s another £50 down pan.

I suppose I could just keep it in the corner out the way.

keeping it in one piece makes storage easier.
As for keeping parts, the list is long, sub frames, suspension, lights, doors, bonnet, boot, exhaust, radiators, alternator, power steering pump, seats, front and ear screens.......the list goes on and on.

what was the last mot like and when was it?

Well not too bad to be honest - no corrosion issues and just a couple of advisories (after fail stuff addressed - ball joint/bonnet catch/fog light inop) of a rumbling tensioner/pulley and ball joint dust cover in poor condition.

The rub is I guess the failure to Rev - that’ll need sorting before test anyway and not sure of when belts last done etc - that’s if I swop what I want and put a test on it and sell it on. So quite likely need to spend a few £ on it, hence break it / store it / move on for spares/repair.

It’s useful having a spare car to pick bits off if I need anything for mine, although shame different mechanics.

Try removing and cleaning the plug contacts on the LP fuel pressure sensor cable - it is the one on top of the fuel filter just inboard of the battery. If that doesn't work then as a test run the engine with the cable unplugged.

A bad connection or a partially blocked fuel filter can cause the symptoms you have.

Could be the throttle position sensor. My old Honda had a drive by wire system and this failing was the reason it refused to rev.

Could be but with our diesels the revs rise in the event of throttle position failure to help you limp home.

Might be worth trying with the MAF unplugged. One of mine intermittently refused to rev, MAF turned out to be faulty. It should run OK if not quite so smoothly with it unplugged

The diesel variants don’t have cam belts, they are chain driven.
