Has anyone had any experience of replacing the plplng on the seat backrest.

I've never tried fixing a split on a leather seat, but it'd probably be a struggle to get it to look "right" if doing a DIY job on it (unless, of course, you're handy with a needle and thread?).
If you can find a decent replacement foam and cover (or full seat) from a breakers, it's not that difficult getting the whole foams swapped over. And there's a few good How-To's on the forum re same. Getting the seat backboard off without breaking the clips is probably the most difficult part (you'll need a large flat-bladed screwdriver or chisel and guidance on the clips' locations from the How-To's on here). EDIT: You won't have access to the How-To's without subscribing, but I've got a backboard off of one of my spare seats and I'll post an image of the clip location tomorrow eve, when I get home (if I remember ). PM me if I haven't added an image by 8.30pm tomorrow. Cheers, Karl. Last edited by The Mighty Quinn; 16th May 2017 at 20:48.. Reason: Additional |

Backboard clips position (1 of 3)
Here are the position of the clips on the seat backboard (see pics).
It's a tricky job getting them off without breaking the clips, so be careful and take your time. There are six clips to be worked on, two at each side of the backboard and two at the bottom. There are a further two clips at the top which simply slide down off their anchor position once the other six have been undone. Firstly, you'll need a large flat-bladed screwdriver or chisel to push in the bottom of the side clips and then pull the backboard out (a little). Once each of the bottom side clips are out, keep the backboard wedged out with something to prevent them from re-engaging. Then you'll need a long flat screwdriver to undo the two clips along the bottom of the backboard (again, be delicate). Lastly the top two on each side (with a large flat-bladed screwdriver/chisel). Hopefully, these photos will give you some idea on the process.. Last edited by The Mighty Quinn; 17th May 2017 at 20:34.. |

Backboard clips position (3 of 3)
And the rest..
Just be careful when sending the chisel/screwdriver in between the backboard and the seat as you can easily damage the surrounding leather/vinyl coverings (wrap it up in a cloth). Good luck - removing the seat foams/covers is fairly straightforward after this part. Give us a shout if you need any pointers. Cheers, Karl. |

If you damage the clips a little (as I did ), a bead of Tiger Seal along the crack should re-stiffen the clips to working order.
