Default Windscreen question!

As some of you know, I have a mystery leak, I have just been to look at the scuttle retainers etc, but spotted the chrome trim and rubber around the windscreen are quite loose, in some places to the point there are large gaps and I can see the white windscreen retaining clips! Is this my leak?! If so, can a windscreen expert fix it or will I need Rover specific parts/clips? Or should I get a sealant gun and fill the gaps?

As I understand it, the windscreen is bonded to the cars bodywork and the rubber / chrome trim is simply there to help hide the join from view. It doesn't have any effect on sealing the windscreen. Have you checked your plenums and sun roof drains (if you have a sunroof)?

Plenums empty, no sunroof! It wouldn't hurt for me to run some sealant in there then?

The fact there is a gap would suggest to me the screen has been out to be replaced?

Perhaps the screen is not sealed properly to the body?

As mentioned above the trim doesn't provide any sealing but it being disturbed does make the above seem an option.

Cool

Perhaps it would be better if you got Autoglass or someone similar to re-fit/re-seal the windscreen

I could see my white clips too. They weren't lined up properly with the screen clips so wouldn't snap on.
Simple solution is to use a thin screwdriver to move the white clip into a better position (they move very easily) and then just push the trim inward to fasten the clips. It's all pushfit and doesn't need any particular skill

The trim is just that, the screen is bonded to the car using a black 'mastic' if it's ever taken off a sort of 'cheese wire' is used to get the glass off.

Can the screen be resealed easily, or could clips be needed? I don't know what to think. Am going to seal the scuttle retainers, but it seems the water is in the corners, so not 100% convinced...

On my 75 the first replacement screen occasionally dribbled inside from the top so it could be a bad seal. You could check by pouring water with food dye in it in stages around the screen
