Door handle fail
Could anyone please help? The driver side door handle has stopped functioning on my MG-ZT. It will open if i flick the handle quickly, i have looked at removing the door card to have a look inside but am a bit reluctant given all the electrics for the windows !

You need to get the card off.
There is a how to on the forum. Read it as hauynes is useless and you need to know the right techniques. It is not difficult if you know how Use plastic trim tools to avoid damage There is a linkage that may need pushing in to the lock mechanism. It connects handle to lock. It is a metal bar about 3" long if i recall. The lock connectong hole that rotates needs to be centered to the mark on the hole side if you need to refit btw Last edited by Dashiel; 23rd August 2012 at 10:41.. |

I take it that it is the external handle, and the car can be opened fine with the internal handle? If this linkage has popped out push it back in but do not twist/rotate it. If you do it will activate the superlocking and the window can trap your hand. If you don't get your fingers out of there sharpish it can be nasty.

No need to lower the window so have no idea why/how you could manage to get your hand trapped. In fact, the window being down stops you being able to access anything to do with the lock.
Other than that, give it a go. Oh and by the way get a lamp with a crocodile clamp. It is dark inside the door. |
