Ok thanks everyone, I'll get a couple of cans of plusgas and spray for a few days. I've got a feeling I used plugs years ago, definitely recognise the name, never heard of the QX or Loctite before.
And thanks Mat, but I think you'd be hard pushed to beat ECP at the moment, I'm after front discs and pads for a diesel, ECP are the same price as you, but then theres 25% off and no delivery charge as I can pop in and get it on my way home. I've already put in an order on with you on Saturday for the bearing, backplate, and handbrake fitting kit, and will probably have to order some more bits from you next month... |

We used PlusGas a lot in the marine environment and I didn't find anything else that penetrated so well. The only alternative was to heat the part up with a gas axe.
Using Copaslip on assembly usually negated the need for the PlusGas on disassembly though. Fifer

Penetrating concoction!
An old motorcycle enthusiast friend of mine, passed on the formula for an excellent penetrating fluid, which was invented by an exWW2 marine engineer who used it to free badly corroded parts on ships, and we all know what salt water does to nuts and bolts at sea!
Its very simple just mix 1 part ATF fluid and I part acetone ( nail varnish remover) this will shift virtually anything ( it was claimed that this solution shifted a seized bolt on an old anchor that had been sitting on a beach for decades! I have used this stuff for years, and for really solidly seized items its unbeatable, plus it smells nice (Almonds)! Last edited by Busboy; 1st June 2016 at 12:15.. |

I just bought some Tygris penetrating fluid. It claims to freeze the part as well to shock it. 400ml tin was £4 at a local classic car event. Wish I'd bought more, but I'd also just ordered Plusgas from ECP. Will be good to see which is best.

This is the best rust penetration fluid ever, I mix my own but you must use pure acetone (99.9%), cheap as chips from ebay. |

Years ago I used to use Castrol Flick easing oil, brilliant stuff, but can't seem to find it anymore.
Best stuff I've used lately is a Normfest spray from ECP which has a freezing effect too. Just found it in the garage, it's called Normfest Super Crack Ultra.
