MG ZT190 electrical problem
Managed to rebuild my KV6 after cambelt failure last month. Got the car running; however, began to notice a rattling issue from the pulley wheel and suspect white smoke from exhaust. This lead to some further investigations and the car coming off the road again. Ended up stripping certain parts of the engine to check the pulleys and also the inlet manifold torque settings. In the process of reassembly frustratingly managed to short the alternator supply lead with the bracket/plate over the rear injector rail with a long screwdriver. This was possible as the rubber sheath over the alternator connection has worn over the years and exposed the connection. I went to start the car to check for correct running and found that the fuel pump wasn't priming. I initially thought that the pump fuse must have blown; however, have since noted (after checking all fuses and undertaking continuity tests to all fuses in the foot well and under the bonnet) that the interior lights, central locking and rear boot opener don't function. I have connected my OBDII reader into the ingnition to try and obtain some form of data and it advises me that no connection is made with the vehicle when the ignition is in its second position. There is clearly an issue with the electrical system after the shorting of the alternator cable. The car cranks; however, as there is no fuel being injected there is no ignition of the engine. I have struggled to find a wiring diagram but believe that the alternator feed is connected to the started motor and ECU along with the battery. By the issues encountered and described is anybody able to provide any form of assistance. Thanks

I'm sure I read a similar post to this yesterday where someone else had done the same and had similar issues as a result. I believe Brian suggested checking the mega fuse (think it is 100A or 150A) in the relay box in the engine bay.
I will see if I can find the post and put a link up.
