Default rover V8 alternator plug

Thank you for your replies and I am not sure how to use the forum threads so apologise if I am doing it incorrectly !!
I have ordered a new standard Ford plug but it is slightly different and I am not sure if that matters.
The original plug attached to the Rover loom has only 2 cables, one green and one yellow even though there is three pins on the alternator. The yellow one is thicker than the green one. The Ford plug I have purchased has three cables and the cables are the same thickness, I can of course cut the unused cable off. Not sure if it matters that one of the Rover cables is thicker?
