Klarius Back Box 1.8T
Hi all,
Has anyone had any problems fitting these, and if so any suggestions? Whole system now seems to sit a bit low: Back box is just sitting on the inside of the bumper and I'm sure will rub. Exhaust hangers seem to be too long and at odd angles, so they don't hang straight down off the rubbers. I've not got a welder at the moment, so altering them isn't really an option, could try bending them.... not sure if I've missed something obvious! At least I got it on so I can drive the car, really want to tidy it up though. Thanks |

I suspect the hangers often get bent in transit or in storage I have bent them before now; if it looks like bending would improve things then go for it

Only problem I can see with bending them (unless I put in some interesting angles!) once the hangers are vertical the whole system will sit even lower
Will give it a go anyway, how bad can it be.

Matt,
Exhausts are a nightmare. For our little Citroën I rejected three different catalytic converters before finding one which fitted! The first was rusty, the second couldn't be attached to the rest of the system because the sealing ring was too big (and manufacturer BM Catalyts was really snotty about it so avoid them!) and the third had the gearbox bracket in the wrong place. I sympathise. Simon

Thanks Simon,
Not sure why I've not given up on them before, had a few parts for the coupe which weren't right in the past - having said that, the backbox, a Klarius, actually seems ok and fitted pretty easily. Maybe I should learn my lesson and just get new stainless systems made up in the future Would have been tempted to take this back, but I've cut the old one off now

had this issue on TGB and it turned out to be the wrong rubbers and rubbers that were weak. New correct rubbers lifted the box clear.

I'm just about to replace the rear silencer for a Klarius item on my 1.8T other than the issue with the low hanging how did you find the rest of the fit ?

Other than the alignment, it wasn't too bad. I didn't have a lot of room to try and hacksaw the old pipe so released the clamp further down the car - surprisingly it came away without to much of a problem. I found it much easier to cut to size off of the car.

The worst part was getting the old rubbers off, I cut them off in the end and replaced them - unfortunate as the originals seemed much better quality than the Klarius ones.

You are not alone there ! That is indeed the worst part and cheap replacement rubbers often allow the exhaust to bounce and knock on various bits of the underside . Last time I paid the extra for originals from Rimmers ;they are built like something from a Chieftain tank
