It shouldn't be more than 56 mph in most cases.

Interesting thread and my 10 p's worth..

Brake lights at traffic lights at night, these days rear lights are quite big and can dazzle the car behind..it is covered as a question in the theory test and quite right.

Leaving an automatic in drive when stood can eventually damage the gearbox. Neutral and hand brake better.

Learners are taught not to use indicators while pulling out to pass parked vehicles in case this is taken as intention to turn right or use left indicate when passed the parked vehicle in case it's taken as intention to stop or turn left.

The big one for me and you see it every day, drivers reversing using door mirrors in supermarket car parks, they will run a small child over one day.

Taxi drivers who think they are fantastic drivers in fact most of them are a danger to all road users..

Back on track the MOT thing about covers makes no sense..

Temporary Traffic Lights, or TTLs.

They drive me up the bloomin' wall!

Mr 40mph man on a single carriageway road that's difficult to overtake on annoys me. In a national speed limit zone he drives at 40mph, in a 40mph zone he drives at 40mph and in a 30mph zone he drives at 40mph. It's frustrating not being able to get past and in a 30mph zone he pulls away because I stick to the speed limit.

Idiot HGV drivers. That's it.
Idiot car drivers who think it's fun to drive 12" behind the car in front.

Idiot car drivers with cruise set to 57 who take 5 minutes to pass the HGV on the inside lane who is indicating his intention to overtake the car in front with cruise set to 50.

Idiot car drivers who cut in front of the HGV in the inside lane because they're left it too late to leave their desired exit safely, clearly without reference to their rear view mirrors.

Idiot car drivers who set their cruise to 55 without letting the HGV who just pulled out to the outer lane to let them on to the motorway, back in again & just stay blithely on the inside of said HGV.

Idiot car drivers. That's it, though idiot car drivers are FAR more numerous. Works both ways.

How do you know "Mr 40mph man" was doing 40mph unless you were keeping up with him?

My first MiL was a classic one of these! Scared my witless. She would drive at nearly 50 mph on urban streets and then stay in the centre lane of a motorway at a steady 55mph.
