Are you having any charging problems ???

If you have a multimeter check the voltage at the battery terminals with the engine ticking over. You should see about 14 volts or a little over. If you do this will show your alternator is not over charging.

You say the alternator feels hot. So does the engine if you touch it after it has reached its operating temperature.----

Alternator working temps can range from 175f to 220f apparently. And overwork from heavy electrical items usage or a duff battery increases load and temperature. So yes it should be quite hot, never thought about that so may pop the bonnet when I get to work
