Might not feel like it in the immediate aftermath, but you had a very lucky escape to not hit anyone/anything else, not flip the car and most importantly not be injured or worse yourself. Glad you're still around to tell us about it.

As for Continental Tyres, I think a call to Trading Standards is in order. If nothing else, another victim may not be so fortunate. I certainly won't be considering them when my tyres are up for replacement.

Well I've had Contential on my ZT's always as replacement for Bridgestone petonza when they wear out.

Had 6 years of specifically buying them to fit to my various ZT's, and both where sport contact 3 which failed.

I'm quite sure the 2nd one was manufacturing issue as has all the trade marks of a issue in layers under the main tread compiund (I build tyres myself for Michelin for a living so know what I'm talking about) but there was so little left of the 1st one was had to inspect. We even had it on out inspection desk to figure out what had happened!

When I've a year under my belt will get a complementary set of Michelin tyres and likely go for the Pilot Sport 3 or depending if freelander is sorted a set of British Goodrich at 4x4 tyres.

Very surprised that happened on such high quality tyres. Glad you're safe. Very scary.

Well you may have noticed last few weeks ive not been on the forum as much, well ive had a string of bad luck.

Lost my job, lost my grandmother and my v6 engine let go, havnt pulled old one appart yet to figure out what it was, but sump off showed hundreds of good sized metal flakes.

So between one thing and another ive been working on the car, ive no shed or garage to work from so ive been weather dependant. Which for last 6 weeks in NI has been "******* ****" to say the least.

So got the engine out at least.

So old engine out, and replacement engine in.

Except it wasnt quite that easy. During the swap with my old 190 I discovered the car it had came from was early, and I mean very early.

First problem, had to swap the entire loom from old engine. Why? Well id left the loom on the engine and wrapped up and exposed parts in padding and plastic bags. Well sure enough opened the main block bag and I had mice had munched and made a nest in the loom. FFS.

As im colour blind I dont do wiring, but I took my time and took loads of photos and swapped it all over.

Next was something that I hadnt spied until the engine was back in, and thank god I had the crane still to lift it out again to give me access. Sump swap and oil cooler removal (older type didnt fit the newer type pipes on my subframe and didnt have an early v6 subframe to swap over so had to work with what I had), oil pipes to it (which where seized solid, days work in that alone), coolant pipes where different but that was easily worked out.

Havnt got the fluids in it yet, but hopefully soon. MOT prep it and go from there, hopefully the engine runs!

By 'eck you've been a busy lad on that car! Bummer to hear what a nightmare it's been but your perseverance seems to have paid off, well done.

Sorry to hear of your run of awful news.
