Okee thnx for al the help. Btw de high speed fan has been working a lot since i had the car so when i stand in frond of a traffic light for a minute or two i switches on. When driving slowly it also kicks in quite fast and stays on quite long

In those circumstances your coolant is above 112°C which is too hot for comfort. Another three degrees and your gauge will start moving skywards. You need to get your slow speed working again urgently.

Yes i will. Just made payment to jules so hope to have a new resistor quickley as i need the car next weekend. Thankfully i dont need it for worK. I got my company mouse for that (grey skoda shittyslow)

Is it likely that the oil cooler has gone aswel? Are they common to go wrong?
Because of the mayo under the oil cap... My 75 is a automatic btw

A failed oil cooler results in a lot more than a bit of mayo under the oil filler cap. That may be the legacy of Mr. Previous Owner. An oil and filter change would be a good idea.

Okay, just thought i'd better ask since i've been reading this topic aswel
http://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/foru...=254920&page=2 Seems like gizmo_the_great had the same freaky temperature red light moment as i did. Hope that there is just a leak somewhere in the system with mine and that de gold resistor mod wil take care of the heat.

Oil change had been done with all the other work.
Yesterday i fitted the gold resistor. Fan works perfectly now. Bled the system again from some air. Temperature stays perfect now. When stationairy for some time temp goes slowly to 100. Low speed kicks in and brings here back to 95 then goes of. Then when moving again engine cools further to 89-92. So thats fixed BUT we couldnt find were al the coolant had gone that i have been adding the last few weeks. No leaks, nothing under the car (undertray removed to see clearly). My mechanic fears HGF in best case. Worst case: dropped cilinder liners and coolant leaking in the cilinder when standing still.... (OMG some poo came out when he said that to me!) Now hoping for the best. Thnx a lot to all of you! I ll keep you updated. Merry christmas btw!!

Hi Merijn,
Thanks for the update. Your running temperatures are fine now. Your previous coolant loss was most likely through the cap due to high temperatures caused by the radiator fan fault, but check in the 'V' for leaking 'O' rings which is the most common place on this engine. You won't have head gasket failure or dropped liners. Your mechanic just cannot accept that you had a simple overheating problem. Look after your beautiful aubergine interior won't you. Simon

My mechanic is a close friend of ours. He helped with a lot of things and does al lot for me for free (yesterday he worked for 3 and half hours removing the front, fitting the resistor and trying everything with the coolingsystem to find out what had gone wrong. No charge). He really wants my car to be allright and when my vitesse engine died he really felt bad for me. He is not trying to make money of my back.
Since after the bleeding and everhthing yesterday i drove took 2 journeys and when she cooled down after the first journey (one hour drive) i had to ad 150ml and this morning 50ml (after the second half an hour trip) so i am hoping thats she is al fine now "...no higher than the 'Max' marker. If this is not visible, remove coolant until it is. [In practice, topping-up will be necessary three or four times after a journey.]" Ofcourse i will after my beautifull aubergine interior. That why i went a long way to buy it. We found 75s in the Netherlands but when this on popped up in belgium (al the way down to almost France) there was no other option good enough but to go on the trip and pick it up. Thnx again!
