I read a review from sports car specialists about cone filters. They said, the performance might change only in certain conditions. Changing filter type changes only sound, and feel of performance is only placebo. In reality, if you change air filter expecting to get more air in, you also have to adjust fuel input to get real performance increase. Other way its just a waste of money.
AND - if you put cone filter - get a good quality one, as cheap ones letting through tiny bits of dust, as they are exposed to dust and stuff more than boxed ones.
The worst thing - there was a case in Honda club, where kids like to do "tuning" in cheap style. Honda was fitted with cone filter, cheap one. After 2 years engine died for some reason (don't remember why). When mechanics took everything apart, they discovered scratches in piston chambers. The conclusion was that cheap cone filter let through tiny particles that stacked up on pistons, burned and scratched everything inside, resulting in losing compression and performance.
So If you do this "kid style tuning" you might get louder sound, placebo effect of performance , and damaged engine in long term. Is it worth it?
I believe it's truth what they say. So my ZT won't get those things on...

As long as all you want is more noise and worse fuel consumption, then these are the way to go!

However, MGR got their intake systems pretty spot on from the factory and the best route is a simple panel filter (like a K&N) in the standard air box!

I presume that is your experience, and if that being the case all fair and good. But I agree, it is slightly noisier under hard acceleration, but I got reduced fuel consumption when I had mine fitted by about 2mpg overall. But then again I did fit one of the best, a Blitz system, and I didn't change my driving style which a lot of people do just to hear the increased Induction noise, which might account for the increased fuel consumption of which you profess...

I only removed mine because of athesiastical (sic) reasons.

I like the sound :-D
performance- no gain

I have oiled my filter from a k&n kit that stops a lot getting through
