Default Dead Altinator

Came to my beloved CDT this morning to go to work, started her up and reversed out of the drive to find smoke drifting out of the bonnet. I stopped the car and lifted the bonet to find thick acrid smoke drifting up through the air vents in the Altinator caseing :-( I stopped the engine but I am sure the stator windings in the altinator are cooked. Odd thing is the charge light didn't come on on the dash. Anyway, I now need to change the Altinator. Can someone point me in the direction for changing this Alternator myself, im handy with the spanners but not done this job myself so any tips n tricks would be very handy

cheers

I did mine from underneath the car. If i remember right....

Belts off, unbolt aircon compressor and move out of the way (there is enough slack in the hoses) remove and replace alternator, refit in reverse. Not a bad job, as always refitting the belts are a pain in the bum. Ive had a local firm make me up a tool to do this now
