Default Heater Matrix No Clips

Went out to take my heater matrix out today, but to my horror, there was no clips or joined pipes. 2 pipes out of the matrix, straight through to the bulkhead. So could not do it. Strange, my 1.8 had the joining pipes with clips and o rings......

I have not got these joins in mine below

Any Idea's??

Thanks

Adie

Late cars didn't have the join - they were a 1 piece system.
Makes it a bit more of a pain!

I managed to maneuver mine out by slackening the retaining brackets and undoing the connections at the matrix. It can be difficult to get them to seal again because they are crimped in.A truely awful design.I believe some people have removed a section of pipe and replaced it with hose secured with jubilee clips to make things easier.

To remove the later matrix, you have to remove the heater assembly intact which requires facia and centre console removal. Not easy and not recommended.
Better alternative is to cut the metal pipes at the same point as the earlier version had joints and repair afterwards using rubber hoses and clamps.

If it's just for a clean-out job, flush through from the engine bay by releasing the bulkhead joints.

Sorry for the silly input, but can the pipes simply not be cut then a heater hose slid over the top of the two pieces and fastened with clips

Or you could join with a plumbing/compressed air type compression fitting. They are pressurised at normal engine temps.
