Default 1.8T Still not starting

Sorry guys but it’s me again………..Still can’t get my R75 1.8T 2003 to start. I gave it a service, filters plugs etc….took it for a test drive and all was going fine when it started to violently miss fire under load and started to lose power…..it stopped…never to go again. I have fitted a new fuel filter, seals and orange clip and checked it several times to make sure the seals haven’t been crimped. I have also fitted a new crank and cam sensor. I have checked for spark at the plugs and compressions – all appear okay. When the engine turns over there is no sign of life what so ever. All suggestions welcome – Cheers Gary

Hi Gary,

i had a similar experience with 2004 1.8 ROVER 75.

TURNED OUT TO BE THE FUEL FILTER WHICH IS LOCATED IN THE FUEL TANK.
IT IS WHITE AND ABOUT THE SIZE OF A 1 LITRE TIN OF PAINT

THE JOINT SPLITS OVER TIME, AND CAN BE RECTIFIED BY RETIGHTENING THE JOINT.

SOLVED MY PROBLEM ...BUT IT CAME BACK 6 MTHS LATER...AND I FIXED IT SAME WAY

OTHERS SEEM TO BE HEADING DOWN THE SAME ROUTE, BUT IT SOLVED MY PROB FOR SURE.

Thanks guys.....
It has a new filter and 0 rings and they were well lubricated when I put it together, the orange clip is on so it hasn’t come apart (I have checked) and when I disconnect the fuel line at the engine the fuel sprays out under pressure.

so you now have fuel to the engine, you have a spark.
crank and cam sensors renewed..checked and correctly fitted?
how does the engine sound when turned over on the key..normal or turns quickly?

I would say the engine is turning over normal – The cam belt is intact and I have checked the compressions they are all about 75 psi. There was a violent bout of misfiring so much so that it blew the breather pipe off the cam cover. Is it possible that the cam belt jumped a tooth?
