I had a similar problem 12/18 months ago, car started then died.
I kept the starter turning with the throttle pressed to the floor even after the engine fired up until it started to run, unevenly at first but soon cleared.
A dirty cam sensor or sticking valve were the most likley suspects.
No problems since.

more than likely your fuel filter has come apart .if that hapens then you just wont have enough fuel pressure to keep car running ,and it may not even start .there is plenty on here about the fuel filter ,look up orange clip.

Doubt it's crud in the tank, after all the system has efficient fuel filters.
Did you check the orange clip on N/S tank filter ?
