Default what engine

Hi guys, first post so a BIG hello to you all.I have read most of the posts on under bonnet pump and they all seem to say the pump is under the battery but my one is at the front of the engine near the starting motor and seems quite hard to get to.Pump is working but leaking fuel from a gasket or seal along one side of the pump.Bit confused about what engine is in this 54 plate CDT 75 diesel? also if anyone else has had this problem is there a possible fix in situ rather than replace as manual mentions special tools to remove. Thanks in advance,
John

Good morning John, welcome to the club. Sounds as if your car is only fitted with the one low pressure fuel pump, found under the rear seat squab(some mk2's were) The leak you found is probably you're high pressure pump, but someone will be along soon to confirm this, hth

There are three fuel pumps (four if you include the FBH pump). In tank electric pump, under bonnet electric pump, then the mechanical HP pump. I understand not all will have the under bonnet electric pump.

So far as I am aware there is no variation at all in where any of the pumps are mounted. The under bonnet pump is either fitted or not fitted. If fitted it is mounted on to the rear of the engine on the firewall.

Mechanical HP pump is under the battery area and is part of the engine assembly.

Level with and between battery and engine is a fuel filter, which uses a cartridge.

Fix a poor handbrake; DIY ABS diagnostic unit; Loan of the spanner needed to change the CDT belts; free OBD diagnostics +MAF; Correct Bosch MAF cheap; DVB-T install in an ex-hi-line system; DD install with a HK amp; FBH servicing.

I've taken a vow of poverty. To annoy me, send money.

John the HP pump is near the alternator and is driven from the camchains. If this is the pump you mean then a special tool is required to hold the camchain gearwheel in place whilst the pump is removed.

There have been a few reports of O rings leaking on the pump top plate. Haven't done the job myself so not sure if you can get to the plate with the pump in situ or not. Haven't heard of them being replaced in situ, but that's not to say it can't be done.

The engine is a BMW M47R, although a few cars were built with a Fiat diesel in them.

If you've got one of those then ignore everything I've said.

Mike
