Default KV6 2.5 Cruise control connector ?

Hello, sorry for my poor English, I'm in France, near Nantes.

My cruise control does not work (car purchased about two months ago). It's an automatic and my stop lamps are not always lighted. I searched on forum (eng/fr) what could be the reason.

The previous owner told me that it worked before but now it no longer works (he barely used it for two years). He has changed the steering wheel for a wood one but he told me that it worked then in his memory.

On the console the light comes on but nothing on the dashboard (above 35mph).
- I checked all the fuses under gloves box and near battery,
- and cleared the various errors reported with TOAF.
- I changed the controls under the steering wheel with others I had

But still no success.

Today I found a connector (not seen before) connected to nothing under the actuator assy (see photo below in my hand), but the wire is short and I can't see clearly or where to connect it. I'll try to look with a small telescopic mirror if i can.

Today I changed the ECU and interface but I couldn't drive. I'll drive and try tomorrow, crossing my fingers, that it finally lights up on the dashboard and works. Does anyone know if this connector could be the cause and where it connects? Thanks.

Yann

I suspect the brake pedal switch Yann. It is in both the stop lamps and cruise control circuits. Occasionally club members have had trouble with this switch.

There is no electrical connection to the cruise control vacuum actuator so that cannot be the cause.

I understand the temptation to change modules and crossing your fingers but it's not a recommended method. It can result in fault codes being created when the ECU identification doesn't match what the car is expecting. This can cause confusion and misdiagnosis as investigation progresses.

Thanks.

I'll drive this afternoon and see.

If it's the same i'll look at the pedal (i had a look with eyes and fingers but did'nt see and feel anything in the first days i had the car) but if there is no contact, bulb lights should be always on, even when i don't press the pedal, no ?

You are quite right, that is indeed what the MG Rover manual says. It just seems to me interesting that two systems (cruise control and stop lamps) should be faulty at the same time when the brake pedal switch is involved in both.

If it's helpful, the repair manual states this:
"With brake pedal released, ensure brake switch is in contact with operating tang on brake pedal."

Alleluia, it was ECU or either cruise control interface.

I was not confident, but... i press button then set+ and light on dashboard and all is ok .

Wonderfull.

My remote centralisation was out of order when i bought it but i change receipter near the handbrake and ok too (after searching other solutions).

So i had two or three things simply out of order but not expensive.

Wonderful.
Thanks for posting the result Yann and I'm pleased that your cruise control is working again.

However what about the possibility of a poor electrical connection between one of the plugs and its module? Or a re-boot of the ECU sorting it out? It's unsafe to assume an internal fault without reinstalling each original module to see if the symptoms return.

And what about the stop lamps, are they still intermittently faulty?

I had already looked under the glove box and unplugged/replugged these connectors with no results.
There was therefore a problem either with the ECU or with its interface.
As for the closing remote control whose receiver had suffered a little oxidation. I had cleaned it but it must have already been ruined.
Morality, plug and play replacement and everything is back to normal after looking for some time where these problems could come from (fuses, toaf, batteries, steering wheel controls, brake switch, etc.).
I haven't found explanations like that on the forums (fr / eng) for these two problems.
No problem with brake lights

Thanks for the help anyway.
