Default How to remove a tough steering wheel bolt

I'm swapping steering wheels from my old 04 Club Tourer to a "new" Connoisseur diesel Tourer (02) simply because it has a lovely wood trim wheel. One wheel came off fairly easily but I had great difficulty shifting the other even slipping a 4ft tube over my socket. I just couldn't hold the wheel against the pressure of my wife at the other end of the tube.

But I could shift it by myself by tightly tying a rope round the seat then round a spoke, and holding the 16mm socket tight with my right hand, was able to exert enough torque at the end of the tube to unlock. (Old Boy Scouts will notice the use of a Haymaker's Bend).
