Get it on some diagnostics, clear any recorded fault codes, run it until the light comes on again and run the diagnostics. It should then produce for you a fault code.

Fix a poor handbrake; DIY ABS diagnostic unit; Loan of the spanner needed to change the CDT belts; free OBD diagnostics +MAF; Correct Bosch MAF cheap; DVB-T install in an ex-hi-line system; DD install with a HK amp; FBH servicing.

I've taken a vow of poverty. To annoy me, send money.

the light isnt for oil and water.the mil lights up to tell you the ecm isnt happy with the way something is working.as said by harry have the codes read then run car and see what code comes back ,you will then have an idea of why the light is coming up.

Default yellow check engine symbol

regarding my yellow check engine coming on when driving, yesterday after finding nothing wrong( tried all connections under bonnet), decided to disconnect battery for a couple of minutes, the check engine symbol has now disappeared, been for a run and it has not come back on, so if it happens to you try that first . ?

If your car is a later model and the egr is isolated/ bypassed then the mil has been known to light up. It does on mine every so often but no fault codes are recorded on the scanner, so i press 'clear faults' and all is ok for another few weeks. hth
