Default Under car Cross bracing removal

Had a bit of exhaust knock which was found to be caused by the exhaust hitting the cross bracing under the car. Fitted a rubber bush on one of the bracings which has solved the problem but I get some vibration into the cabin now.

Would I be able to remove this cross brace, just the front one for example without causing any problems?

I have read somewhere that these cross braces are important , as part of the stiffening that the "transmission " tunnel provides . The tunnel was never designed for transmission but was an integral part of the body shell stiffness and the braces contribute to that . I will see if I can find the reference .
I would not remove it . Try repositioning the exhaust , usually by slackening the clamp to the back-box and rotating the box a little .

Here is one source :
https://www.aronline.co.uk/cars/rove...pment-history/

"The requirement for body stiffness would be the reason for the large transmission tunnel and structural cross-member under the bonnet. Many members of the motoring press concluded the ‘transmission tunnel’ belied the fact that the R40’s floorpan was an adapted version of BMW’s 5-Series."

Not the one I'm thinking of , though...............
Interesting read , anyway !

Hi Rhys.
I would flip it over first and refit you should get the required space then without removal of an important brace which as above states acts as a stiffener

Otherwise you could space it off?? You'd have to be careful of speed humps and the likes though...
