CDti Poor starter Any ideas please?
I have owned the CDti for many years then my Son had it then it came back then My OTHER Son had then...etc etc..
Anyway it is an 03 CDTi with around 100k on it Just serviced by yours truly oil filter, fuel filter, etc But it had become a tricky starter I cleaned all the gunge out of the valve at the front and replaced the Maf with a good second hand one but it persists in being a hard starter..Not all the time of course sometimes it fires up perfectly but when you're in a hurry and my Daughter in Law is a Midwife it can get all sulky and refuse to fire. Any clues? Kind Regards Bonnietiler |

I would think a good place to start would be with an injector leak-back test. It seems that this problem is quite common and often results in difficult starting.

It varies sometimes starts perfectly at others its a real pig, occasionally though it feels low on power immediately after starting then picks up after 10 seconds or so. I was thinking it might be the cam sensor?

Unfortunately injector leakback seems very common on our cars, trust me I've lost count of the number of sets of injectors I've supplies in the last year alone.

Since nobody has mentioned it, have you checked the plenum drains?

Personally I'd start with a decent injector cleaner.
I've just used this stuff to good effect - put it in the fuel filter, prime and run the engine for a minute before leaving it to soak overnight. http://www.directcarparts.co.uk/work...ve-p1375/s1383 If you've still got the problem, look for injector leakback as Mickyboy quite rightly says. |

So the down on power for 10 seconds will be nothing to do with the cam sensor. As mentioned they usually fail hot, but when mine went, the first time it wouldn't start was from cold. |
