hello guys . just fitted my new steering column today and would like to thank rich for his superb how to that he posted on this forum . his efforts saved me a sack of money and also made the job a lot easier. i know he has gone to the land of kia but im sure he still visits us regularly as im sure hes still a rover man at heart. the job itself was pretty straight forward with only a few difficult areas mainly being the dexterity of the fitter (me) and positions of contortions in the drivers floorwell !! apart from that its perfectly doable. i had a very tiny amount of side play on rocking the wheel (very small) amount but thought it was the spline fitment play or loose steering wheel bolt ... no it was the bottom column bearing that had miniscule movement but did not give any signs of movement to the visible top column bearing. amazing !! i bought the lhd column from rimmers as my car is 2002 and it fitted a treat with just the rubber boot to transfer on to my new unit. as rich said in his post they are identical apart from that item ! my car has only done 68000 miles and the column was on the way out so grab one while you can. once again a big thanks to RICH1785 for his sterling work . regards xsport
