Default Rover 75 2004 Cd player wont store codes

Hi There, this is my first post. its about my dads rover 75. he bought it around a year ago and it had an after market cd player fitted. all worked ok.

then last week he decided to fit a standard head unit back in the car out of a breakers yard. fitted in to the same wiring loom as the after market unit and seemed to work fine, but after switching the car off and back on, we had to enter the code again and it wont store the radio stations. also, one of the stranger one's is when you turn the ignition off the wipers do one full sweep, we disconnected the black plug from the head unit and it stopped the wiper fault.

just wondering what could be causing this, checked the wiring and there is a constant 12 volt feed going to the cd player so a bit confused at why it wont store the codes. any help is much appreciated.

Thanks, Scott
