I agree these r8s are very resilient to rust,yes the rust but not as bad as the contemporary cars at the time. I can count over 20 of these shaped cars over here and they are all in very good order.

Had a 216sli a few years back & it was a brilliant car. Never went wrong, ran so smoothly & in metalic dark green looked fantastic..!!!!

WHY oh WHY did i sell it.

That looks a great car Lucky you i say.

Mine was identical to Colin's one.

If i remember the colour was called Quicksilver, i had mine Ziebarted just after buying it and it was rust free, even the tailgate hinges stayed mint (maybe due to the wax that had been applied) they were a very good car, far superior to the Escort/Astra equivalents.

I have a customer who has one of these it's a 216SLI auto,1994 on M plate,owned since new.some slight rust on osf wing and a little on rear arch.but overall excellent for it's age. Her late husband suffered a stroke many years ago, so it had hand controls fitted as he was disabled , still in daily use too.EDIT forgot to add,we had one too a. 214si, L reg, but one of the rear wheel arches had rot in it, contrary to other posts on here.
