Default Firestick / Kodi PVR

I have spotted the PVR settings in Kodi and delving a bit deeper Kodi sees my laptop (when it is on) and my modem/router which has a 1Tb HDD plugged into a USB socket on the router. I have used the 1Tb drive plugged into that USB socket for backups, but can the Firestick /Kodi actually make use of it, what for and how please?

It might be useful for server sources which are too slow and keep buffering?

Fix a poor handbrake; DIY ABS diagnostic unit; Loan of the spanner needed to change the CDT belts; free OBD diagnostics +MAF; Correct Bosch MAF cheap; DVB-T install in an ex-hi-line system; DD install with a HK amp; FBH servicing.

I've taken a vow of poverty. To annoy me, send money.

To use PVR (Personal Video Recorder) Features in Kodi you need to have a source for TV available to it. e.g. a computer with a TV tuner running a TV channel server.

E.g. At home I have a Kodi running on a raspberry Pi 3 with a USB tv tuner connected to my main TV aerial Using the TvHeadend software I set that up and then have Kodi configured to use TvHeadend as a source of TV channels, I can watch, pause or record live freeview TV or even stream it across the wifi to my laptop.

You won't have that ability with the firestick - you'd need to have the TvTuner and TvHeadend installed on a 'Proper' computer and available to your network. I've no idea if the firestick has enough performance to work with that setup.

It does say something in the settings about it being able to record from TV channels sourced from the Internet and even gives a blow by blow of how to set it up, but the settings in the menu don't match the blow by blow listing.

I do have an USB TV adaptor to enable my laptop to receive live Freeview, bought a couple of years ago as a general purpose radio receiver. It is in fact a wide band receiver, able to pick up ACARS and lots of other VHF /UHF sources.

They never do, do they? By the time the instructions have been produced the software has changed is always the case. Usually there's some vital step completely missed out as well. In short you'll need a client addon to match your TV server I've never looked into the IPTV recording capabalities I'm afraid.

You'll need some form of tv server software, TvHeadend seems to be the most popular. It might take some research to see if it will work with your laptop and USB adaptor.
