As pab says the size doesn't help the price, consider 40 profiles, I found these about 15% cheaper than 45s

Check whether they are recommended alternative tyre size, if not I wouldn't do it. Insurance wouldn't pay out in the event of....

The rolling cicumference will be wrong, speedo reading will be incorrect.
IMO quality part worns may be a better option than cheapos.

the speedo on a 75 overeads any way to allow for the range of wheel sizes fitted .it is within the law ie 10 percent

Plenty of choice on ebay, just seen 4 new tyres in the size you need for £250.

just a little test i hear so much about cheap chinese this and cheap chinese that, how many soly uk tyre manufacturers are there.the vast majority of todays items and we are talking a vast range of goods are chinese made and a lot you would not think were chinese and most are exellent quality.but like in any country there are poor quality items even the germans can turn out rubbish.AVON who were as english as bigben now sublet some of there tyre manufacture to asia.michelin who were american through and through now sublet to canada and asia.

mark, i have been driving 25 years, up to 75k miles a year. my own conclusions on tyres is that as long as your driving is sensible fitting budgets is a sound thing to do. As posted before avoid the eastern cheapo brands as these can be noisy at speed and degrading comments are common. I have tended if anything to find the mid range tyres last longer than the likes of contis as the rubber compound is harder. When i think back my only tyre issue whilst driving ( blowout) was actually on a michelin. As you say yourself if you sling a car into corners in the wet then your will get issues but if not then you wont!

I doubt you would notice the extra noise between a half decent set of 40s or a plastic set of 45s. The zt ride is stiff anyway so I can't say it made a huge difference.

Have to agree with Rovex!

With all the regulations that we have governing safety in this Country, yet we don't have a test for something as basic as tyre grip in the wet/cold, when some of these things have the grip of a slippery eel in the wet!

Obviously the 1st is the important one.
Labels are like the labels you see on new white goods for power efficiency etc.
These tests are the result of lab tests rarther than real life, bit like fuel figures...
We all bash the EU in this instance it seems a bit of a result?

Couple of observations, out there in the real world on cars older than say 4 - 5 years most i see are on budget tyres. In an emergency braking situation the car behind likely to be running budgets.
And therein lies the problem!

It's a good move by the EU to bring in testing, but should a tyre that has DOUBLE the stopping distances of the top tyre be allowed to be sold in a Country where it does rain occasionally?.......

And our cars probably have DOUBLE the stopping distance of the latest porche fitted with carbon brakes,,,SCRAP THEM ALL IMMEDIATLY!!!

Look, I agree there should be a minimum standard but who decides what that is? You cant base a standard on high value designer brand products that are out of most peoples price range.
