It works fine, all they are doing is enabling what is in the software anyway. It comes up as the final item on the button, but would perhaps be more useful if it came up by default.

Fix a poor handbrake; DIY ABS diagnostic unit; Loan of the spanner needed to change the CDT belts; free OBD diagnostics +MAF; Correct Bosch MAF cheap; DVB-T install in an ex-hi-line system; DD install with a HK amp; FBH servicing.

I've taken a vow of poverty. To annoy me, send money.

Harry is correct, it is a single bit change, from 20 to 21 if memory serves... turns on a feature which was reserved for V8's

My car is very early (built May 1999). Do you believe it will have that feature?

When I fitted the Trafficmaster Alert system it worked, but the display was slightly corrupted. Other members with newer cars didn't have this problem. I spoke to Pektron (the manufacturer of the Alert module) and they said that I was lucky that it worked at all since it was designed for much later versions of the IPK.

I bet it will be a similar situation with this. Has it been tried on any 1999 vehicles?

If you are going to quote a speed error it needs to be either a percentage, or quoted with an actual speed.

I use cruise as the steady reference and all three of mine hold steady enough.

At a steady 70mph as shown by the GPS, I get 65mph analogue (as near as I can tell), 68/69 digital - mostly it shows 69, with a very occasional 68. With a bit of tweaking of the cruise, I can lock the GPS showing 70 and the digi showing 69.

The +/-2 is usually +2 and compare to the many hire cars I have driven at 120 KM/H on continental motorways.

I think if you have the message centre IPK it should be there, I have heard of no reports of updates not working,.,,,

Mine is a Cowley car built in 2000 and it worked fine on that.
The scanner appears to be a very useful tool, but I have only just started using mine yesterday.

I got mine from ebay here.

The hardest part is getting the driver to work as the ones provided are for XP or Windows 98. My Notebook in on Windows 7.
In the end I gave up and installed it on an old laptop, that I had running on XP.

Once plugged in to the OBD, it displays VIN and mileage etc and has about 4 pages on various items and error codes. You can clear them if you like.

If you double click on "EEPROM" is will give you a page of numbers and letters, which I do not have a clue about.
If you change the number in the Offset (h) Column 08, Row 00000A0 (sixth row up from the bottom) from a "20" to a "21" is will enable the speed feature on the IPK.

Before and After shown below:

It then comes up on the cycle, when you press the stalk, as the last item (after trip, mpg, range etc) and will remain displayed until a warning message comes up.

For £14, I think it is well worth getting one.

I hope I haven't made it sound more difficult than it is, to enable the speed readout.

Thank you Bob. That is reassuring.

You deserve an award! It's very clear indeed.

And just so that I'm clear on this; the digital display does not repeat the over-reading on the speedometer dial?
