Jim, I saw your demonstration pictures on Facebook. The car looks great with all the posters posted on it. I hope Jaguar take notice and listen now.

Hi Jim,
First really sorry to hear about all your problems. Glad at least some are being sorted. Is the car industry inhabited by lemmings? I simply never "get" how "they" think the excuses, fob offs and general wriggling out of things are going to reflect on the marque and industry in general. I had a brand new FIAT Uno (yes I am quite old!) that was wonderful until a few weeks after its 1 year warranty ran out. Then there were a catalogue of failures and breakages which, of course, were not covered as "...the warranty has run out...." Guess what? I've never have and never will buy another FIAT. My second hand Toyota, on the other hand, had a window motor go (similar to yours) and without any quibble, discussion or teeth sucking it was replaced free of charge. Guess what? I bought another..... My son bought a Yaris so Toyota picked up another sale there. It's surely not rocket science is it? Good luck with your "advertising" of the standards and quality of the dealer All the best. Andy Probably never a Jag owner now either. |

In response to the above post, the types of people who buy a new Jaguar will do so irresepctive of the possiblity that at 10 years of age, some of the examples may suffer from visible rust.
It is the same with a Mercedes E Class, which had serious rust issues around 2003-2006. They sell because of what they are - a large classy car that is purchased as part of a personal presence and status. Potential issues at 10 years of age will not generally form part of the decision algorithm. What is going to happen to a car when it is 10 years old will be more of concern for the type of person who buys a Toyota or a Fiat. This is the reality of market dynamics. Hi MSS,
Totally agree that the "new car" people will purchase whatever. But, to me, it affects the brand image so if I'm looking for something then the manner in which these sort of issues are handled has a direct impact on the sort of marques/dealers I'm looking to spend my money with. On a variation to a theme I'll never buy from any Sytner dealership after one of their apprentices committing suicide after he was set on fire as a bit of a prank . http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2017...gues-set-fire/ Each to their own choices. Regards Andy. |

No shortage of XF doors on Ebay in the £100-£200 range if you don't mind second hand. Or for the same amount of money you could potentially buy another Rover 75!

A very good friend of mine bought a three year old "E" class which looked perfect. when it hit 5 years the rust started to show, due to work commitments he was away for six or seven months then on his return it was taking a very strong grip. He never got anywhere with Merc, so bit the bullet and spent a fortune on it. Some came back after a year or so he sold it for peanuts. It was a 2000 model coupe. You are also quite right regarding those that buy run of the mill cars like Fiat & Toyota. In this part of the country we have serious rust issues due to the councils instance that below 3c every road is gritted/salted in winter. Cars used to die with rust issues in 5 years up here, now of course vehicles that had a bad name for rust just don't now. Fiat Punto's that are 15 years old are common on the roads and are rust free, there are other cars of 15 years showing their age badly, Mondeo's, Focus's, Mazda 626, Astras and of course Jaguar X types, VW Golfs with rusty wings. So the question for Jim is..... is the XF better protected and designed for rust resistance better than the previous X type? The big problem is manufacturers sitting on their laurels, OK most cars are far better than 30 years ago but I must admit the expensive ones don't really cut the mustard for subsequent owners after the original owner parts company with it after 3 or 4 years.
