I have a metal dog guard above my load cover. You can get them with a retractable dog guard that comes up from the load cover, but one of my dogs it small enough to get through the sides of that!!

The rear seats can be folded and the load cover used to give the pooch a massive space to lounge. If you prefer a dog crate then a the load space is 38" x 27" so any crate smaller than that would suffice.
