I must admit, parking is a problem almost everywhere. We have been in our terrace house 10 years. After struggling to get parked in the street for the first two years, i decided to have the front garden block paved, it came at a price but it was the best decision I made, I now have room for two cars although people still park part over the entrance.

Have you had a drop kerb put in? If so, parking over it is illegal. Friends of ours were dismayed to find out when they converted their front garden to a driveway, that people could block them in, on their driveway, if there was no drop kerb.

Cost them £800 and an eight week wait to get one - but all sorted now.

Cost of a dropped kerb in these parts is £1100 and can take up to 3 months to get done.

My neighbour lets me park one car on the hard standing in her front garden. I have lost count of the amount of times I have asked people to move so that I can either get out or even pull in to park. I came home one afternoon and found a car parked on the hard standing. Asked around and found that it belonged to a chap visiting a friend 3 pathways further down the road. He thought you could park on anyone's driveway or hard standing.

I can remember playing football in the street and not a car in sight.

All well and good but try to get someone to enforce it, no chance round here, even if you have a white line.

Just now, over the road from mine, one of the most stupid bits of parking this week.

Perhaps the answer is to exponentially tax multiple cars in a household if parked on a public highway - i.e. a real roadtax.

One car £x% of value

Two cars 2*£x% of value

Three cars 4*£x% of value

Four cars 8*£x% of value

I should be working for the treasury!
