First port of call is the brake pedal sensor - it may need pushing down a bit to reseat it against the top of the pedal.

If that checks out then check the contacts on fuse 13 - if this fuse blows or the contacts are bad it will bring on the brake lights.

Default A word of advice

I and a few others have had problems when we replaced the brake pedal switch...

Should you find that the pedal switch is faulty then you will save yourself a lot of hassle by buying the new switch from Rimmer Bros. There are others available elsewhere but I know of none that will work correctly...

If anybody knows otherwise then I am happy to be corrected.

It's not a difficult job but it is fiddly due to its location and the positions you get into while removing and replacing it. Good luck.

A thing I find, if working in the foot well, it always feels worth using ramps as this makes it easier to get in, means you only have to bend 3 ways to get access to the switches in the foot well instead of 4.

I have this problem from time to time. Far too lazy to get a switch and limbo over the door sill though. I got a straw on the end of a can of WD and soaked the switch this time, it's been fine for months now. I'm not holding my breath though, if all good after a year, it's fixed

When i had trouble with my brake light switch i lengthened the wire that goes to the switch by soldering and heat shrink tubing. The reason for this was i pulled the wires out of the connector due to not been able to see what i was doing and to Ham-fisted

I found to replace the brake pedal switch it helps if you take the bracing bar off the front of the pedal first. It seems so much easier to get your hand in to replace the switch without that in the way.

Which will do nothing at all, it is not a normal switch, but an Hall Effect switch - no moving parts to stick. It relies upon the proximity of the metal of the pedal arm, to trigger it.

Press and hold the pedal down, move the sensor towards you, then gently release the pedal to set it in the correct position. Same applies to the clutch sensor.

Fix a poor handbrake; DIY ABS diagnostic unit; Loan of the spanner needed to change the CDT belts; free OBD diagnostics +MAF; Correct Bosch MAF cheap; DVB-T install in an ex-hi-line system; DD install with a HK amp; FBH servicing.

I've taken a vow of poverty. To annoy me, send money.

Wink

The switch on mine kept moving back in the holder, but there's no way I'm able to get it out! I ended up adjusting the switch then managed to get a small g clamp on it and tightened the clamp enough to hold it
Seems to work ok now.
