Looking at the photo's the "Damage" to the rear bumper is hardly noticeable or am I missing something??.
A write off for that minimal damage is a Joke..

From what I've seen on the various salvage sites, any damage to a 75 or ZT which ends in an insurance claim is highly likely to result in the car being written off. I'd guess insurance companies are just not interested in using second hand panels, or trying to find spares for cars where the manufacturer has long since disappeared
But be careful, Copart have an interesting system of 'extra charges' which are added to the eventual bid price, you even pay to bid on-line (...??? ) unless you use a terminal at one of their depots. Oh and don't breath any of their air when you arrive to collect the car...

I just love seeing them after I purchased a car from Kobart added onto the final price sometimes it's quite shocking really 😮 I remember the days when it was universal salvage didn't have bad fees like that then. As for ROAD TAX that is going to be a mega money on an 07 plate. The car itself looks okay, but all that makes it different is its an 07 plate which means... Higher road tax band Obviously it's got a premium bumper and MG7 rear lights and a pretty good milage. However it doesn't have Highline satnav or message centre. And if it does need belts that's not going to be cheap and as it's a thirsty V6 I won't be in the market for it, I did however see it last week on Friday when I was down at the yard looking at another Mick

I think the rear panel maybe damaged as the boot no longer closes properly. Not sure on tax but with build data could be used to have it changed?

DVLA won't change the tax bracket, that's for sure, you're quite right the boot doesn't shut properly it's twisted it to the right, I can't say that I checked the boot floor because I didn't open the boot up and look inside as I wasn't particularly interested in buying it myself, but was curious

Michael - I just hope Copart don't see this thread, otherwise they'll introduce a 'Super size cable tie charge - £15'....

All because some silly girl wasn't looking where she was going. We really fought hard to have the insurance company reconsider and repair by finding similar condition and mileage examples on Autotrader. As a regular insurance company thy see it as a 10 year old Rover- So worth £1200. I'm sure a classic or specialists brokers would have taken a lot more into account and repaired it or at least paid out for repair.
They claim they had quotes of 3k to repajr even though we told them bumpers are available from Rimmers for about £300- they just can't be bothered with the hassle. Especially if then you aren't pleased with the repair work quality etc Last edited by Roverguest; 22nd May 2017 at 21:51.. |

I thought that if the accident wasn't your fault, you could stand firm and pretty much demand that your car is repaired, rather than written off ?
Obviously, if the car is crushed into a ball, or if you caused the accident, then the above wouldn't apply. But in this case, if the Mini driver ran into the rear, surely you could have dug your heels in with her insurance company, obtained your own quotes (if necessary... as I can't honestly see that being a £3k repair, unless a chassis leg has gone - very unlikely, looking at the bumper) and put the car back to it's pre-accident condition ? I see so many cars nowadays that have been written off for a tiny amount of damage, I tend to think the insurance companies will tell us, their customers, any old thing for an easy life. The general public don't have the legal knowledge to argue, so just accept what the insurance 'officials' say. Maybe any insurance advisors on here would like to respond...

I can well believe a £3k bill. Mine was £1k and that was using second parts and repairing parts, that was after a rear end shunt as well.
