Default saloon headlining

Quick question......

Is it possible to get the head lining in the car WITHOUT damaging it ?

The one in it is has come a drift, sagging and horrible.

So that I can just rip out.

can a replacement be fitted without having to remove a screen ?

I have the same problem and was informed by Trikey it is possible. Basically, you need to get one of the same type (not facelift if you don't have that). Remove all handles, A,B, and C pillar trims, roof lights.

Fold the backrest of the passenger seat all the way flat and it will (apparently) go out the passenger door. That's how I remember him telling me, I'm sure others will put me right if I've missed anything

You can get the roof out, but it is notoriously difficult to get the fabric glued on smoothly.
This is a problem that Rover an other British cars have had at least since 1978 and the SD1, unsuitable glue!! (most people would have learned a thing or two over this time span, you would have thought! but, alas , no!)
A tip:
Buy a little box with 100 ss needles (pin needles with a small head). Use them to hold the fabric unto the board. Press the needles in sideways, and make a symmetric pattern to your liking.
Far easier, cheaper and efficient than glue.

Thank you..... I'm not going to try to repair it..... too far gone.

I just wanted to know if I could slide a replacement in without hurting it LOL

Yep, it comes out easily enough, a slight bend to get the new one in, but it doesn't hurt the new headlining.

Done about 4 of these roofs now,got it down to a fine art.
If you do go down the re do the headliner path, need to remove all front and back head rests, seats back and the backs laid down as far as they will go.
As mentioned need to disconnect battery, loosen A pillar airbag trim, remove rubber door seals,B pillar and C pillar trim, rear top brake light assembly,'all hand grabs and sun visors and interior light fittings.
If a sunroof, remove the edge trim.
Once that's done, go to the rear of the headboard , there is two metal clips attached to the roof each about 5 cm either side of the rear roof light.
Slide your hand under the rear of the headboard and locate the clips and push down.
Headboard should now be free, manoeuvre out the from passenger door.
Now pull the old cloth off and with a stiff brush get all the orange sticky foam glue off.If your te glueing new trim on you need to get every bit of the old orange stuff off.get some detergent and water scrub remaining crud off , let dry and your ready to put the new head cloth in using hi temp glue.!!!
