sounds like the resistor has failed, cheapest and easiest place to start

No point Robert. If the fan starts at a coolant temperature of 100° then your silver resistor must be OK. Note that the slow speed on a resistor system can be very loud, misleading the owner into thinking that the fan is running at full speed.

Hi Simon. I'm still trying to get my head round the fan system. As far as I can tell, on my facelift 190 the fan comes on at the required 100 degrees but as I have yet to get the air con re-gassed after the engine swap, I haven't heard the fast speed yet! (I think) Do I take it that the fast speed will be the one I hear when the air con is used?
I must get it gassed as all I have at the moment is warm air! Steve

No Steve. With the air con. operating the fan should be running continuously at slow speed. The faster speed will trigger if the refrigerant pressure rises above a normal value.

That's the basic answer!

Thanks Simon. I suppose then that with a bit of luck, I may never hear it!
I think I'll have to sit down and brush up on how it all works. Steve

Air con at any temp causes the fan to run at high speed, never seen the fan at slow speed

How do you know that you're hearing high speed then?
