Yes you are getting a cd player error it may be down to condensation on the laser. Was the interior of the car warm or cold when you tried it?

The laser may also be dirty try a cleaning disc such as Scotch 3 m.

Did it ask for the code?

It did not ask for the code, the radio has been in the dinning room at mine which is cold for the past three days and spent most the day in the car without the engine on, if i go for a run tonight in the car do you think warming it up could help, or should i just go straight for the cd cleaning disk

Thanks

Try it tonight when the car is warm. This will not help steering controls though did you get the right lead? What radio was fitted originally?

You may have a mismatch in the pin configuration for the steering wheel controls.

The wiring will be fine. Its the resistor values in the remote control on the steering wheel that needs to be changed. Applicable to later VDO and Iovox headunits.

The steering control cables are in the 17 pin plug (pin 10 - Blue/Orange cable and pin 17 - Blue/Purple cable). The CD80 uses a separate mini ISO plug for the steering controls. You will need to run extra cables from the 17 pin plug to a mini ISO plug (they are not normally in the BMW to ISO adapter lead).
