You may get away with just changing it. I believe you need a 13mm socket to remove it but i'm not sure on the size of the nut itself.

M8 which needs a 13mm long socket. If it has been wound all the way down, a long socket may not have the reach - in which case shape a bit of tube to fit.

The thread on the cable end, is harder than the nut, so if it has been overtighted the nut's thread strips making it impossible to remove. In which case - drill down the side of the nut with a 2mm drill bit to free it.

Fix a poor handbrake; DIY ABS diagnostic unit; Loan of the spanner needed to change the CDT belts; free OBD diagnostics +MAF; Correct Bosch MAF cheap; DVB-T install in an ex-hi-line system; DD install with a HK amp; FBH servicing.

I've taken a vow of poverty. To annoy me, send money.

I didn't have a socket deep enough so I used a crow foot spanner. As the clearance is a bit tight I couldn't get full rotations, so had to keep removing the spanner, spinning it back and then turning more. Took a while, but worked a treat.

Be very careful trying to undo the locked nut if it as been wound right down on the thread at the last nano i managed to snap the cable after a garage that a member had taken his car to for new rear drum shoes and handbrake adjustment dogged it right down and it would not move.

The out come was the member had to use is car for a week with out no handbrake until he could get to mine the following weekend so i could replce the handbrake cable he managed to purchase from Rimmers.

Check this out one extreme to another at that meet

On seized nuts or just to reach the said nut if not seized because if not seized a 13m long socket is just the job
