Fog Light Replacement for MG ZT - Compatibility with Other Vehicles
Hello all,
I've been on the hunt for replacement fog lights for my MG ZT, and like many of you, I've noticed that the options from Rimmers can be a bit pricey. After some research, I've come across an interesting discovery that might open up more affordable alternatives. It seems that the fog lights on our MG ZTs are not exclusive to our model. I've found that the same fog light is used across a range of different cars, including the Mazda MX5, Citroen Berlingo, and the Jaguar X-Type. They appear to use the exact same Valeo lamp unit, but there's a catch – the connectors seem to be different. Now, here's where I'm hoping to tap into the collective knowledge of this community. Has anyone attempted to use fog lights from these other models on their MG ZT? If so, were you able to overcome the connector differences, was it just the case of using the existing connector on the lamps fitted? I'm particularly interested in hearing from those who have successfully swapped fog lights between these models or have found a workaround for the connector mismatch. If we can identify a cost-effective solution that maintains the quality and functionality of the fog lights, it could be a game-changer for many of us looking to a few pounds on replacements. Cheers, Adam. |

I found these ones earlier, I had a look at the connector type used on these units and they appear to be an H1 bulb, I believe that the ZT uses the H11 type bulb.

If your car doesn't have an undertray, have a look under the bumper for the connector type. I believe all MK1 ZTs used a H11 socket, the lamp unit on Ebay posted above appears to have an H1 bulb with a different plug connector. I did read on here that some early renditions of the ZT used the H1 fitment, but I haven't been able to find any more information on this.

I've cut the plugs off the replacement lamps and soldered and heat sleeved the original ones on, an easy enough job. |
