Default 1.8 / 1.8t Tourer Exhaust

Hi all,

trying to sort an Rear Exhaust box for my dads 2004 1.8T tourer.

should it have a 50mm bore exhaust or approx 58-60mm bore?
- As we are having trouble getting hold of one for it. he ordered one and it was too big of a diameter.

Im not at my parents at the moment - my dad is doing the job and he tells me that it seems to have a 50mm bore to the back box. am I wrong in thinking that the 1.8T should have the larger bore?

So - is it possible to have the smaller bore (1.8 na) exhaust (50mm) fitted after the downpipe without bodging it? I dont know.
- Im just wondering if it has had this done to it?? and it does have a turbo fitted.

He is going to have a look along the exhaust with the car on the ramps in the morning.. but has anyone any ideas at the moment?

Kindest regards,

Kevin

See recent thread here bought mine from On-Line Automotive about 4 years ago, they show several boxes, OEM was a one piece system with separate strap hanger for rear box, needs care with cutting (measure twice cut once) but easy DIY job with axle stands.

Enter reg in their system and should show correct box, mine not to loud or boomy, and fitted well even though it's really the ZT box with straight twin pipes rather than the shorter down turned 75 style.

Replacement has built in hangers and uses original rubber mounts, much better design

Entering details should arrive at this part, you'll also need exhaust paste and a 64mm U clamp

We have a forum How To here to help you

Exhaust diameters are 1.8 50mm, 1.8T 60mm. Unsure whether these are bore or OD. I suspect they're defined by the OD.

It would certainly be an obvious bodge and would affect the performance.

Back boxes for the Turbo shouldn't be difficult to find. The same box is listed for both the 1.8T and the V6/190 on Rimmers site. I bought a Bosol (OEM supplier) back box for my turbo from Mr Auto on eBay.

eBay: http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_fr...turbo&_sacat=0

Rimmer: Item 12 http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/Item--i-GRID001930

60mm OD for OEM system, add swaged joint on back box and that accounts for U-clamp being 64mm, didn't order when I bought mine so a trip to Halfords was in order.
