After running for a few mles now and hot air is coming into the cab fine now,but temp is still around 100?I know for a fact by a quick look antifreeze in the car seems virtually non existent.Just wondering how much temp difference it would make in a car running on just cruddy water, compared to proper antifreeze mix??Probably not 10 degrees though! ;-)

It wouldn't make any difference at all. The high running temperature could be a PRT issue or something else, but it needs sorting.

Is there any pressure in the header tank when everything's gone stone cold?

No there's no pressure issues at all in the expansion tank.I've had the cap off a few times lately so all's fine.It was unbeluevable that matrix hose was folded over and kinked closed?Glad i spotted that,it's improved flow, obviously, through the matrix and heating has improved.
I'm pretty sure a coolant change, bleeding it will help.If it is the prt(thermostat?)i would have thought it would have got 'really' hot.Is 100 degrees really, really worryingly high?

I've reads lot of guides to filling etc.Just looking for a pic of the exact bleed screw location. Its impossible to see looking down in engine bay.
So with all my hoses hot prt must be functioning properly,is that a given?

You'll have to move some clutter to gain access. I've never had to use it yet. The 1.8 virtually bleeds itself. Drive and top up. Repeat till stable. I do sometimes use my Pella to refill and pull air out and a lot easier than faffing with the bleed screw.

Have you checked all three hoses on the PRT?

If the 1.8T engine uses the normal steel coolant rail liek the 1.8 NASP engines the engine coolant bleed screw is located on the top of this steel rail that is found below the throttle body and opposite side of engine to cam belt.

It is a 8mm socket for the bolt. The photos are of the rail on an MGF Mpi hence the distributer drive on the end of the cam.
