Ok, as this thread has breached club rule 7.1
7.1 Where a thread has been closed by a Moderator, for whatever reason, you may not continue the subject of the closed thread in a new one. I am closing it forthwith. I am not a political animal, nor did I offer thanks or comment on the previous thread on the subject, so I cannot be accused of bias. The actions of Simondi in closing that other thread here Oh Dear! - Jeremy Corbyn caught telling porkies were within his remit as a forum moderator and a discussion amongst the group has ensued on the matter to which we agree that his actions were warranted and acceptable. The level of political debate in general has increased over the last couple of years on here and has often resulted in the general upset of many members, with arguments, heated debate and resentment brewing. In short, like religion, politics is a dangerous subject matter which all too often gets out of hand very quickly - often before any of the moderators can nip things in the bud. The purpose of the social forum is to converse in light hearted topics not immediately related to Rover 75s and MG ZTs, it is not a platform for serious socio-political debate and was never set up to be. Clearly the wording of the sticky quoted by others written by Ken at the inception of the club back in 2006 has now far out grown it's original intent, and as such will be under view by the team along with club rule 15 as clearly there is an ambiguity over political posting. I would remind those readers looking at this thread of the sticky I had to put up a while back when political discussion got it's claws into the club. That sticky is still relevant now, please review it here Attention Please All Political Animals! We are first and foremost a car club and not a debating society, and no matter how well mannered some political discussions may be, they are still potential soap boxes for folk to promote their will and view on others. As has been said many times already, if you feel the need to have political discussions, please use other fora or social media to do so. |
