To NZ members - Rover 75 engine rebuilds/workshops
Hi all,
I'm in pickles with my Rover 75, as it needs another engine rebuild again and radiator replacement. Had already done this two-three years ago. My Dad too owns a Rover 75 too (both Rover fans!). Funny enough we're stuck with the same problems. Not sure if we should give up on both, or restore just either one. So I need some advice from any NZ members: What workshops are there in Auckland that specialise in the Rover 75s? I've been going to my usual place in Avondale for a while now. But I'm keen to know of other places out there perhaps is also recommended Any other advice that's might be useful is appreciated too. Cheers, James |

Hi James,
When you say Avondale, are you refering to that lot on Wolverton street? I have never had a face to face myself with them, but have heard more than a few stories about them. I personally would try Paul Walbran Motors, i think they are on Crum Ave, or very near there. Google them. Another place I would recommend is Michies Automotive in Takapuna. They are doing the cambelts etc in my Tourer in a few weeks. I have dealt with them before with my other rovers, and so has a friend of mine. Roverland at Wairau Rd could be a go, but they tend to have prices that are a tad higher than other garages. That is my lot, someone else may come along with other recommendations. Graeme

Excellent, thanks Graeme. This is the sort of info I'm looking for.
Yes, I was referring to Wolverton Street. I'm not sure what the word is, but they're friendly and decent. They changed owners about three years ago. But I'm thinking now I should try somewhere different as I have mixed views what's being suggested. The other place I know of is Roverland, but yeah I've a gut feeling their prices will be much higher. Cheers, James Last edited by nzhead; 1st January 2016 at 17:07.. |

Hi again James.
Paul Walbran is a MG specialist, and they also have the famed T4 computer. They have dealt with the KV6, I think two of the owners sons have ZT models and a V8 75. As they have a T4, they might be best overall for diagnosis issues. I did not realise that the guys in Wolverton St had an ownership change. I have heard a few horror stories from there a few years back. So that could have been the previous owners. Just goes to show how long bad press can stick around. Graeme

The new owner of Wolverton certainly seems like a good bloke. Got my cam belts done there last year and I was very happy with the service and price. But if you're after another opinion then I would say Walbrans would be your best bet. I will probably go there in future because of the T4, and he has helped me out in the past with an MGB I used to have
We bought our ZT from Roverland and initially had it serviced there, so I used to go to them out of habit even though their prices were steep. But then about 2-3 years ago Roverland wanted $1600 for a new fan when mine went, I figured that was just taking the Michael and ended up getting one sent by Jules for less than $400!! Then I went to Archibald and Shorter / Roverland (as they were then) with our Freelander2 and got charged $1300 for wipers, a WOF, and for labour to fix a problem they didn't fix! (ended up being a dodgey crank position sensor which I identified myself after a bit of time at Google university). I personally haven't had a great run with Roverland so I wouldn't recommend them (especially on price). |

Hi All
Progress update and need help from you guys: I've finally decided to get my Rover sorted and it's been at Paul Walbran Motors at New Lynn (Auckland, New Zealand) for the past four months now – since Nov 2016. They're doing a pretty good job so far diagnosing and fixing the radiator as a starting point. But basically, I need a replacement engine and we're finding it difficult sourcing one within NZ. Paul suggested I do some research too. I'm looking at overseas now and specifically the UK for importing. I'm hoping someone (not just from NZ but other countries too) had already done something similar can share experiences and suggest (or avoid) any particular places offering Rover engine rebuilds/replacements with overseas delivery, etc? Also after doing Googling, I keep coming back to this: http://www.roverkseries.com/rover-ce...over-45-75-800 They're at Norfolk, UK. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance, James ! |
