Default rover 75 airbag light does not come on

hi
i have just bought a 2005 75 cdti (2L diesel) and have just noticed that the airbag light does not come on when you turn the key to 2nd position . i have been told that it should light up and then go out after a few seconds . can anyone help (i have tried pushing the yellow connectors under the front seats together )

Sounds like it was on permanent and someone might have blacked out the light in the IPK.

The instrument panel, where the light should be.
It's not unknown for someone to mask the light with tape rather than try and repair the fault

It may not be on the front, quite probably between the led and the printed screen. This thread has some very good photos of removing and stripping the IPK. Obviously you don't need to do all of that, most likely as far as removing the dials.

If you really want to be safe then yes, but there shouldn't be any need as all the connections are made via the two plug in connectors at the back of the IPK.
There are no loose wires floating around when you disconnect it.

It should also be noted that the car should not be driven with the IPK removed. You can shuffle it around on the drive but no more.
