Hello Mike,

The short answer is 'nothing that I'm aware of'. The master cylinder is, however, 24 years and 90+ thousand miles old. The rest of the braking system is being renewed, and I don't want a geriatric m/c at the front. A refurbishment via an Ebay kit is all very well, but the state of the bore is unknown. A proper refurbishment with a fitted bore liner, as I have had on my classic, would be an acceptable solution. Unfortunately, no one seems to be offering that service.

Derek.

Derek,

"If it ain't broke, don't fix it".

It's a fallacy to believe that just because something is old and has covered a high mileage means that it must be prone to failure. On the contrary, the reliability of many mechanisms actually increases with regular use.

Unnecessary intervention also tends to add to the risk of unreliability and unexpected breakage of other parts.

It's worth a thought I'd say.

Simon

I quite agree, but much of the braking system needs renewal. I decided, therefore, to avoid cutting corners. Hence the extended, and ultimately successful, search for a master cylinder.

Derek.
